Chalk art on Chicago Avenue at George Floyd Square in Minneapolis reads “Free Our Brothers” and “Lock Up Our Oppressors.” Painted across the street with the image of a figure behind bars, the message was part of the protest memorials and street art that appeared at the site in June 2020 after the murder of George Floyd. George Floyd Square became a focal point for mourning, calls for police accountability, and community-led occupation of the intersection.
