The Centier Bank Building rises over downtown Gary, Indiana, at the corner of Broadway and 5th Avenue. Built in 1925 as the Gary National Bank Building, it was for decades among the tallest structures in the city and served as a hub for the region's banking industry during Gary's steel-boom growth. Centier Bank, a Indiana-based institution founded in 1895, later took over the building and added its name to the upper facade. To the south stands the Genesis Convention Center, which opened in 1981 as part of a downtown redevelopment effort and continues to host concerts, trade shows, and civic gatherings for the Gary area.
