Allina Commons at Midtown Exchange, Minneapolis
Allina Commons occupies part of the Midtown Exchange building at 2845 Chicago Avenue in Minneapolis, a structure originally built in 1928 as the Sears, Roebuck and Co. Minneapolis Mail Order House and Retail Store. Architect George C. Nimmons designed the original complex, which once served as a regional distribution hub for Sears catalog orders. Developers redeveloped the property in 2006, converting the roughly 1.2-million-square-foot building into a mixed-use complex that today includes Allina Health's corporate offices, a Sheraton hotel, condominiums, and the Midtown Global Market. The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
