Kenilworth Tunnel Construction, Southwest LRT Corridor, Minneapolis
Aerial view of snow-covered residential neighborhood with Southwest LRT tunnel construction site in Minneapolis.
The Kenilworth Tunnel is part of the Southwest Light Rail Transit extension, a 14.5-mile addition to the Metro Green Line connecting Minneapolis to Eden Prairie. The tunnel runs beneath the Kenilworth Corridor, a narrow strip of land separating the Kenwood and East Isles neighborhoods that also carries freight rail and a popular multi-use trail. Metro Transit and the Metropolitan Council oversee the project, which has faced repeated delays and cost increases since construction began in 2019.
