Demonstrators gathered in downtown Minneapolis on June 24, 2022, the day the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization. The 1973 Roe decision had established a constitutional right to abortion, and its reversal returned regulation of the procedure to individual states. Minnesota law continued to protect abortion access after the ruling, a status affirmed by the state's Supreme Court in a separate 1995 case, Doe v. Gomez. Crowds carrying hand-lettered signs assembled near government buildings in the city's downtown core, a common gathering point for organized marches and rallies in the Twin Cities.
