This building at Lake Street and Nicollet Avenue once housed a Kmart store before the retailer closed the location in the early 2000s. The U.S. Postal Service leased space inside from November 2020 to late summer 2023, running a temporary post office there after arson attacks destroyed two South Minneapolis postal facilities during the unrest following George Floyd's death in May 2020. The building sat mostly vacant after the Postal Service moved out, and a fire tore through the structure on October 20, 2023, collapsing sections of the roof and interior. Graffiti reading "Say His Name" remained on interior surfaces after the blaze.
