Fencing and barricades surround Minneapolis City Hall and the Hennepin County Government Center in downtown Minneapolis, Minnesota. These security measures were installed in anticipation of the Derek Chauvin murder trial, which began on March 8, 2021. Chauvin was charged in connection with the death of George Floyd on May 25, 2020, an event that sparked widespread protests. The construction of Minneapolis City Hall, completed in 1909, is a notable example of Beaux-Arts architecture.
