US Bank Stadium Construction, Downtown East, Minneapolis

US Bank Stadium replaced the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome as the home of the Minnesota Vikings, rising on the same Downtown East site the Metrodome had occupied since 1982. Construction ran from 2013 to 2016 at a cost of roughly $1.1 billion, funded through a mix of state, city, and team contributions. The stadium's translucent ETFE roof panels and zinc-and-glass exterior were designed by HKS, Inc., with a seating capacity of about 66,000 that expands to over 73,000 for events like the Super Bowl, which it hosted in 2018. The project anchored a broader redevelopment of the Downtown East neighborhood, including new office towers built by Wells Fargo and Ryan Companies on former parking lots south of the stadium site.
