Original Wisconsin Ducks Tour Boat, Wisconsin Dells

The Original Wisconsin Ducks operates amphibious tour vehicles on the Wisconsin River near Wisconsin Dells. The vehicles are modified DUKWs, six-wheel-drive amphibious trucks first built in 1942 by General Motors for the U.S. Army to move troops and supplies between ship and shore during World War II. Wisconsin Dells businessman Mel Flath began running surplus DUKWs on local waterways in 1946, launching one of the country's longest-running duck tour operations. Each vehicle carries roughly two dozen passengers on a route that combines the Wisconsin River with a drive through wooded trails cut into the area's sandstone bluffs.
