Lake Michigan's shoreline near Kewaunee, Wisconsin, collects driftwood carried in by wind and current action along the western shore. The Kewaunee Power Station sits a few miles south of town on this same shoreline, a single-unit pressurized water reactor that began commercial operation in 1974. Dominion Energy operated the plant until its closure in 2013; NorthStar Group Services has since managed its decommissioning. The reactor generated roughly 574 megawatts of electricity during its operating years, drawing cooling water from the lake it sits beside.
