Sheila Nezhad ran for mayor of Minneapolis in 2021, one of several candidates challenging incumbent Jacob Frey. Nezhad campaigned on police reform. The adjacent "No Justice No Streets" placard, with its raised-fist imagery, echoes protest graphics that spread through Minneapolis neighborhoods following George Floyd's killing in 2020. Frey was reelected that November, though Nezhad and fellow challenger Kate Knuth together outpolled him in first-choice votes under the city's ranked-choice system.
