On January 9, 2026, hundreds of protesters gathered outside a downtown Minneapolis hotel they believed was housing Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents, staging a "noise demo" to oppose ICE operations in the city. Minnesota Conservation Officers, Minnesota State Patrol, and Minneapolis Police declared the assembly unlawful and moved to disperse the crowd.
The protest took place amid a broader wave of activism responding to Operation Metro Surge, a federal immigration enforcement campaign that drew intense opposition across the Twin Cities. Demonstrators used drums, guitars, and amplified sound intended to disrupt.
Authorities made approximately 15 to 20 arrests over the course of the action.
