Getaway Kettle River

Device-free cabins, fire-safety rules, and minimalist amenities near Kettle River, MN

Getaway is a network of small cabin compounds designed to offer stripped-down stays close to natural areas, and its Kettle River location sits in the pine and hardwood forest of east-central Minnesota near Sandstone. The cabins are compact and intentionally spare, built around the idea that proximity to the outdoors matters more than interior amenity.

Each named cabin — including one called Jaunita — is set on a gravel pad with a fire ring, a picnic table, and a pair of Adirondack chairs. Getaway enforces a set of community rules covering fire safety, food storage, and noise, with fines directed to local conservation groups. One of the more distinctive touches at this location is a wooden lockbox provided for guests to store their phones, an object that makes explicit what most retreat settings only imply.
