George Floyd Day Proclamation

On October 14, 2022, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey stood at a podium inside Minneapolis City Hall to formally proclaim George Floyd Day, marking what would have been Floyd's 49th birthday. Members of Floyd's family — including his brother Terrence Floyd, Paris Stevens, and Angela Harrelson — stood alongside the mayor, each holding copies of the proclamation.

The ceremony took place more than two years after Floyd's death in police custody at the corner of East 38th Street and Chicago Avenue in South Minneapolis, an event that set off widespread protests across the United States and prompted a global conversation about racial justice and policing. Outside City Hall, demonstrators gathered, one holding a sign reading "No Justice No Streets" and naming those same streets as landmarks of the movement.
