The property's low-slung guest room wings, pink-and-gray trim, and rooftop flamingo sculpture were characteristic of the theme-driven roadside architecture that defined the Dells motel row during its peak decades. Independent motor lodges along the strip competed for family road-trip travelers drawn to the Wisconsin River's sandstone gorges and the area's roadside attractions.

Starting in the 1980s and '90s, large waterpark resorts reshaped the Dells tourism economy, drawing visitors away from the older Highway 12 properties and, in many cases, buying up and demolishing the motels outright. The Flamingo closed without being redeveloped, leaving its cracked parking lot and empty pool among several vintage motor lodges still standing but no longer operating along the corridor.
