Muhim's Café operates on Lake Street in Minneapolis, a corridor long known for its concentration of East African, Latino, and immigrant-owned small businesses. Lake Street serves as one of the city's primary commercial thoroughfares, running east-west through south Minneapolis and connecting neighborhoods including Whittier, Powderhorn, and the Longfellow area. Many storefronts along the corridor were damaged or destroyed following the unrest of 2020, prompting a wave of rebuilding and new business openings in subsequent years.
