Minneapolis Police Command Vehicle at Anti-Theft Clinic, Lake Street
Minneapolis Police Department deployed a mobile command vehicle to the Hyundai anti-theft clinic site on Lake Street on November 10, 2022. The truck, equipped with surveillance masts and communications gear, is used by MPD for large events, ongoing investigations, and coordinated operations requiring an on-site command post. Hyundai and Kia held a series of these clinics nationwide that year after a spike in thefts linked to a security flaw in vehicles lacking engine immobilizers, offering free steering wheel locks and software updates to affected owners. The clinic's location, in a lot near businesses still bearing plywood and graffito from the unrest following George Floyd's killing in 2020, sits within the Lake Street corridor that saw some of the heaviest damage during that period.
