A changeable-letter sign at "The Peoples Way" reads "JUSTICE FOR TYRE KEENAN & TORTUGUITA!!!" The sign, which also features a raised fist symbol, is a public statement of solidarity and a call for justice. Tyre Nichols was a Black man who died in police custody in Memphis, Tennessee, in January 2023. Manuel “Tortuguita” Terán was a protester killed by police during a raid on a training facility in Atlanta, Georgia, in January 2023. The location, "The Peoples Way," is a street in Minneapolis, Minnesota, that was renamed by activists during the 2020 George Floyd Uprising.
