Gus Klenke earned a local reputation for his mechanical skill, repairing farm equipment using scrap metal he salvaged himself. The Klenke family also kept cottages for rent and sold honey from bees they raised on the property. The garage sits on ground once occupied by a cheese factory, tying the site to the area's earlier agricultural trade.
