Chuck E. Cheese's opened its first location in 1977 in San Jose, California, founded by Atari creator Nolan Bushnell. The chain built its identity around combining pizza service with arcade games and animatronic stage shows for children. CEC Entertainment, the parent company, has operated hundreds of locations across the United States, many centered on birthday party packages that include token-based game play. The paper cups and plates carry the company's branded mascot, a mouse character introduced as the chain's mascot in its earliest stores.
