The City of Minneapolis operates one of the nation’s oldest organized alley waste collection systems, dating back to the early 20th century when service routes were first formalized for the city’s grid of north-south residential blocks. Today, the alleys continue to serve as vital service corridors, reflecting both the urban infrastructure and the century-old planning model that still defines much of Minneapolis’s residential layout.
