Boiler Room, Filer & Stowell Factory, Milwaukee
Boiler Room, Filer & Stowell Factory, Milwaukee.
Filer & Stowell was a Milwaukee manufacturer founded in the 19th century, known for producing steam engines, sawmill machinery, and later industrial equipment used in mills and factories across the country. This boiler room supplied the steam power needed to run the plant's heavy machinery, with coal-fed furnaces and a network of pressure gauges and pipes regulating output. The company operated for well over a century before its Milwaukee operations wound down, leaving behind industrial buildings that have since sat vacant.
