Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Walking Through Snow

The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is a toy breed developed in England and named for King Charles II, whose fondness for small spaniels shaped the breed's early history. Bred primarily as a companion dog, it typically stands 12 to 13 inches tall and weighs between 13 and 18 pounds. The breed is recognized in four color patterns, including the red-and-white Blenheim seen here, named after the Duke of Marlborough's estate where the coloring first became popular. Long, feathered ears and a silky coat are hallmarks of the breed, traits inherited from its spaniel ancestors bred for flushing game.
