Boards covering storefront windows at 110 N. 3rd Street in downtown Minneapolis bear hand-painted messages including “Black Lives Matter” and “Justice 4 George.” Photographed on June 4, 2020, the boarded facade also includes notes such as “People’s pets live here” and “Kids live here,” combining protest messages with notices to passersby in a mixed commercial and residential building. The markings appeared in the days after the murder of George Floyd, when plywood over downtown businesses became surfaces for mourning, demands for justice, and neighborhood communication.
