Capybara Resting at Sustainable Safari, Burnsville

Capybara are the world's largest living rodents, native to South America, where they live in groups near rivers and lakes throughout the Amazon Basin and Pantanal wetlands. Adults typically weigh between 77 and 146 pounds and can grow to more than four feet long. Sustainable Safari, a small animal encounter attraction in Burnsville, Minnesota, houses capybara alongside other exotic species as part of its educational program. In the wild, capybara are semi-aquatic and rely on partially webbed feet to swim, spending much of their time in or near water to regulate body temperature and avoid predators.
