The Hennepin County Government Center, completed in 1975, houses both county administrative offices and the district courts in downtown Minneapolis. During the 2021 trial of former police officer Derek Chauvin, the building was surrounded by fencing and concrete barriers as part of heightened security measures. Hennepin County posted signs along the perimeter permitting peaceful demonstrations on the plaza while prohibiting camping, tents, generators, and the storage of unattended property.
