September 2024 — A temporary “Turtle X-ing” sign stands beside a paved trail managed by the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board, reminding cyclists and pedestrians to slow down for turtles crossing the path. Each spring and summer, snapping and painted turtles migrate between nearby lakes and wetlands to lay eggs in sandy soil along the city’s parkways. These seasonal signs are part of Minneapolis’s broader effort to balance recreation with urban wildlife protection, especially around the Chain of Lakes and Minnehaha Creek trail systems.

These signs are typically installed by city or utility crews to reduce vandalism and theft of copper wiring from streetlights and signal systems. Aluminum, though less conductive than copper, is widely used for cost and safety reasons in public electrical networks across Minneapolis and other U.S. cities.

September 2024 — The Midtown Greenway runs beneath a series of bridges in south Minneapolis, shown here during evening hours with red tail lights from passing cyclists marking the trail’s path. Originally a railroad corridor built in the early 20th century, the Greenway was converted into a protected urban bike and pedestrian route in the early 2000s. Flanked by apartments, offices, and green spaces, it serves as a major east–west transportation corridor connecting Uptown to the Mississippi River while supporting Minneapolis’s commitment to sustainable transit.

December 2024 — A new fleet of electric bicycles for the Puerto Vallarta municipal police stands ready for deployment, each bearing the city’s emblem and markings for the Policía Turística. These fat-tire e-bikes, still wrapped in protective film, are part of an initiative to increase patrol mobility along the Malecón, beaches, and narrow city streets. The compact, battery-powered design enables officers to respond quickly through the resort’s bustling pedestrian areas while reducing emissions and traffic congestion along the bayfront.

The bridge reflects Minneapolis’ investment in protected urban cycling infrastructure, supporting its reputation as one of the most bike-friendly cities in the United States.

December 2025 — A winter scene along the Midtown Greenway, the 5.5-mile rail-to-trail corridor that runs through the heart of Minneapolis. The trench and bridge structures visible here date back to the early 20th century, when the Milwaukee Road railroad used this grade-separated route to move freight without disrupting street traffic. After rail service declined, the corridor was converted in stages beginning in the late 1990s, becoming one of the city’s most heavily used bicycle and pedestrian routes. The snow-covered path shows how the greenway remains active year-round, with cyclists continuing to use the historic trench even in mid-December.
