Mexico City’s Centro Histórico, major boulevards, and public transit systems
April 28, 2018 - May 3, 2018 — Mexico City
Mexico City, the capital and largest city in Mexico, traces its origins to the founding of Tenochtitlan in the 14th century. The modern city encompasses the Centro Histórico, which includes the Metropolitan Cathedral, Palacio de Bellas Artes, and Alameda Central park, surrounded by colonial-era and mid-century buildings. Major boulevards such as Paseo de la Reforma connect the historic districts to newer business and residential developments. The city’s metro system, one of the most extensive in Latin America, has played a central role in daily life since its opening in 1969, complemented by public bike-share initiatives launched in the 21st century. Today, Mexico City remains a major urban hub, with its architecture, public spaces, and transit infrastructure serving a population of over 20 million across the metropolitan area.
