The Tires Plus automotive service center in Uptown Minneapolis, located on Lake Street, stands boarded up in 2020. The plywood boards, installed to protect the retail store during the civil unrest and protests that occurred in Minneapolis that year, became a canvas for public expression. Graffiti messages such as "Stop Line 3" reflect opposition to the Enbridge Line 3 pipeline project, while phrases like "No More Prez" and "Riots 2020" convey political and social sentiments prevalent during the period. This public art on temporary barriers illustrates the intersection of local commerce and widespread social and environmental justice movements in the city during a historically significant year.
