October 2019 — The Chicago Transit Authority’s Sox–35th station serves the Red Line on the city’s South Side, positioned above the Dan Ryan Expressway near Pershing Road. The station provides direct access to Guaranteed Rate Field, home of the Chicago White Sox, whose name can be seen across the pedestrian bridge in the background. Opened in 1969 as part of the Dan Ryan branch of the Red Line, the elevated structure was designed for efficiency amid highway traffic, symbolizing mid-century Chicago’s integration of mass transit and freeway infrastructure.
September 2019 — Opened in 2014, Target Field Station is a multimodal transit hub serving the METRO Blue and Green light rail lines, Northstar commuter rail, and several Metro Transit bus routes. It sits adjacent to Target Field, home of the Minnesota Twins, and doubles as a public gathering space with an amphitheater, green plaza, and year-round programming. In this night view, the glowing red canopy and bold “Target Field Station” signage stand out against the dark sky, framed between the historic Ford Center (left, built in 1912 as an assembly plant) and a modern office building (right). A freeway bridge cuts through the foreground, symbolizing the layered infrastructure of the city. This mix of historic brickwork, modern transit, and illuminated signage captures Minneapolis’s ongoing balance of industrial heritage and urban redevelopment.
June 2019 — U.S. Bank Stadium in downtown Minneapolis, photographed under a clear night sky, showcases its striking angular design illuminated by the city’s glow. Opened in 2016 and designed by HKS Architects, the venue serves as the home of the Minnesota Vikings and a premier multi-purpose arena for concerts, major sporting events, and conventions. Its faceted steel and glass shell evokes the prow of a Viking ship, a nod to the team’s heritage, while its translucent ETFE roof allows natural light by day and reflects ambient light by night. This structure replaced the collapsed Metrodome and now anchors the eastern edge of the Minneapolis skyline as one of the most distinctive modern stadiums in the United States.

September 2017 — The Olympiastadion in Berlin stands in the foreground, framed by the dense tree cover of the Westend district. Behind it, the cooling towers and chimneys of the Reuter power plants dominate the skyline — part of Berlin’s long-standing energy infrastructure along the Spree River. The large natural-draft cooling tower at left belongs to the Reuter West plant, commissioned in the late 1980s and operated by Vattenfall, while the taller stack at right is part of the older Reuter facility dating back to 1930, later converted to modern combined-heat-and-power operation. The contrast between the stone colonnades of the 1936 Olympic Stadium and the industrial silhouettes in the distance captures the layered character of Berlin’s western edge — where historic architecture, post-war redevelopment, and ongoing energy production coexist within a few kilometers. The area remains one of the city’s key power-generation corridors, supplying electricity and district heating to much of central and western Berlin.

July 2015 — U.S. Bank Stadium, home of the Minnesota Vikings, began construction in December 2013 on the site of the former Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome in downtown Minneapolis. The stadium’s steel skeleton, seen here during its mid-construction phase, showcases the dramatic angular geometry that defines its final form — a nod to both Nordic shipbuilding and Minnesota’s icy winter landscapes. The project, designed by HKS Architects and constructed by Mortenson, features over 19,000 tons of structural steel and spans 1.75 million square feet. Its transparent ETFE roof panels and vast steel trusses were among the most complex structural assemblies ever attempted in a U.S. stadium build. Completed in 2016, the $1.1 billion stadium remains one of the most technically ambitious indoor venues in North America, notable for its fixed-roof design, massive glass curtain walls, and precision-engineered support cranes like the red lattice boom seen here — used to hoist the roof trusses into place during overnight construction sessions.
