October 2025 — Light rail vehicle on the bridge at the Kenilworth Channel. This morning Metro Transit towed a light rail vehicle through the line for the first time doing basic clearance testing. Construction on the green line extension began in 2018 and is set to open to passengers in 2027.

The path was closed hours after a mass shooting that claimed 5 victims. The path has been a popular place for open drug use all summer.

This narrow waterway flows parallel to Shijo-dori and is lined with traditional wooden machiya, many of which date back to the early 20th century and once housed teahouses and restaurants serving the geiko and maiko communities. The skyline appears in the distance—soft, cool, and out of focus—giving the bench a quiet vantage point over the city. Rebuilt and expanded during the Jubilee Line Extension project of the 1990s, the station’s concrete-lined tunnels and exposed mechanical framework represent a fusion of industrial engineering and modern architectural design. At nearly 26 meters below ground, these escalators connect the Northern and Jubilee lines with the mainline concourse above, handling tens of thousands of passengers daily.
