May 1–31, 2021 Minneapolis

May 2021 marked one year since the murder of George Floyd. Protesters and community members gathered for commemorations, marches, and memorial events across Minneapolis.

George Floyd Square hosted large gatherings honoring Floyd’s life while reinforcing calls for systemic reform. The anniversary brought national and international attention back to Minneapolis.

The month emphasized remembrance, accountability, and continued protest momentum.
