The Fergus Falls Kirkbride building, part of the former Fergus Falls Regional Treatment Center, was built between 1888 and 1902 following the linear-plan design promoted by psychiatrist Thomas Story Kirkbride for the humane treatment of the mentally ill. Utility sinks like this one served the building's wards and support rooms, where staff handled cleaning and basic medical tasks for patients housed in the facility. The hospital operated until 1999, and much of its original plumbing and fixtures remain in place from decades of institutional use.
