Minneapolis Protest Garden for Deona Marie and Winston Smith

A community garden was planted in an empty lot in Uptown Minneapolis, adjacent to the parking garage where Winston Smith was killed on June 3rd, and near the road where Deona Marie was killed on June 13th. Smith, who was Black, died after officers from a federal task force fired their weapons while serving a warrant. Deona Marie was killed when a driver struck protesters demonstrating against Smith's killing. This garden serves as a memorial and a space for community remembrance.
