Winston Smith Protest Garden, Uptown Minneapolis

The Winston Smith Protest Garden in Uptown Minneapolis was established as a memorial following the deaths of Winston Smith and Deona Marie. Smith was killed by law enforcement on June 3, 2021, and ten days later, Deona Marie was killed when a vehicle drove through protest barricades. The garden serves as a space for remembrance and community gathering in the wake of these events.
