"Stop the Steal" rallies spread across the country after the November 2020 election, as supporters of President Trump contested the results before Congress certified them in January. In St. Paul, demonstrators gathered outside the Minnesota Governor's Residence on Summit Avenue, the official home of the state's governor since 1965. Proud Boys members joined the crowd alongside counter-protesters, part of a wave of similar confrontations that played out at statehouses and governor's residences nationwide that fall and winter.
