First Snowfall at George Floyd Square, 38th & Chicago

Heavy snow falls on George Floyd Square
The first snowfall of the season blankets George Floyd Square at the intersection of 38th Street and Chicago Avenue in South Minneapolis. This site became a global focal point for protests against racial injustice following the murder of George Floyd by Minneapolis police on May 25, 2020. The square, also known as George Floyd Global Memorial, features a raised fist sculpture, a Pan-African flag, and numerous floral tributes, serving as a permanent memorial and gathering place for reflection and continued advocacy. Even under a fresh layer of snow, the site continues to hold cultural and historical significance as a space for remembrance and calls for systemic change.
