Stairwell with Arched Window, Fergus Falls Kirkbride Building

The Fergus Falls Kirkbride Building was designed by architect Warren B. Dunnell and completed in 1890 as the main structure of the Fergus Falls State Hospital. It follows the Kirkbride Plan, a 19th-century model for asylum design that called for staggered wings to give patients access to light and air, a layout still evident in the building's stairwells and connecting corridors. The hospital operated under several names, including Fergus Falls Regional Treatment Center, before closing in 2005. The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
