A mural depicting Maya Angelou and her quote is displayed on the side of Calhoun Square mall in Minneapolis. This artwork, painted on boards, emerged during the Minneapolis Uprising following the murder of George Floyd in 2020. Such murals served as expressions of grief, resilience, and protest, transforming public spaces into sites of collective memory and activism. Angelou's words, "You may write me down in history with your bitter twisted lies, you may trod me in the very dirt, but still like dust, I’ll rise," resonated with the community's struggle for justice and hope. Calhoun Square, located near Hennepin Avenue, became one of many sites across the city where temporary art installations conveyed powerful messages during this period.
