Once nearly inaccessible, this area has seen rapid development, raising questions about ecosystem impacts and zoning enforcement. Despite the growth, the lagoon remains a rare quiet edge of an island increasingly defined by tourism infrastructure.

April 2022 — A new housing development begins on the site of the burned O'Reilly Auto Parts store.

May 2022 — A storm moves in over a large development in Uptown Minneapolis.

May 2022 — The newly rebuilt US Bank building on Lake street. The bank was destroyed during riots following the May 25th, 2020 murder of George Floyd.

June 2022 — Construction at Karmel Square on Lake Street in Minneapolis.

September 2023 — Construction continuing on the re-development of the Century Plaza building in downtown Minneapolis. When finished, the building will house the Minneapolis police first precinct.

October 2023 — A moose in the water in the Superior National Forest in October 2023.

October 2023 — The K-Mart site in South Minneapolis. Firefighters fought a fire here earlier this month. After two South Minneapolis post offices were burned down in May 2020, the Postal Service leased space in the building from November 2020 to late summer 2023 for temporary post offices during rebuild.

November 2023 — Long awaited demolition of the K-Mart on Nicollet Avenue in Minneapolis. The store was damaged during the 2020 Minneapolis Uprising and then used as a temporary post office for nearby posts offices that were burned down.
