Tarpon Springs, Florida: Please Do Not Board Sponge Boat Sign
A "Please Do Not Board Sponge Boat" sign is displayed on the Tarpon Springs Sponge Docks in Florida. Tarpon Springs has a rich history as a hub for the sponge diving industry, drawing Greek immigrants to the area in the early 20th century to harvest natural sponges from the Gulf of Mexico. The Sponge Docks remain a significant cultural and economic center for the city, attracting tourists and continuing the legacy of sponge diving. This sign serves as a directive for visitors to respect the operational areas of the working boats.
