The illuminated entrance sign for Shell's Convent Refinery in St. James Parish, Louisiana, marks the former site of a significant industrial facility. Opened in 1967, the refinery was a key component of Louisiana's "Petrochemical Corridor," processing up to 240,000 barrels of crude oil daily at its peak. Shell ceased operations at the Convent Refinery in 2020, concluding over fifty years of industrial activity along the Mississippi River.
