BLM & Black Owned on Boarded Businesses, Downtown Minneapolis

Boarded storefronts in Downtown Minneapolis display messages of "BLM" and "BLACK OWNED." These markings appeared on businesses during the fourth day of protests in Minneapolis, following the death of George Floyd in May 2020. The plywood boards were installed to protect retail establishments amidst widespread civil unrest. The spray-painted messages served to identify businesses in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement and to distinguish Black-owned enterprises during a period of significant social upheaval.
