On January 7, 2026, Renée Nicole Good, a 37-year-old Minneapolis resident, was fatally shot by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent at the intersection of Portland Avenue and 34th Street in south Minneapolis. Her death occurred during Operation Metro Surge, a federal immigration enforcement action that brought ICE and Border Patrol agents into the neighborhood.

Video recorded by bystanders showed Good attempting to drive away as agents surrounded her vehicle before an ICE agent fired multiple shots into the SUV. The agent later identified as the shooter was Jonathan Ross of Chaska, Minnesota. Border Patrol Chief Gregory Bovino of the El Centro Sector was among the federal officials present on Portland Avenue that afternoon.

Within hours of her death, thousands gathered on Portland Avenue for a protest and candlelight vigil, carrying signs demanding the arrest of Ross and calling for ICE to leave Minnesota.
