Keisei Line Transfer Stairs at Nippori Station, Tokyo

Nippori Station sits on the boundary of Tokyo's Arakawa and Taito wards, where JR East's Yamanote, Keihin-Tohoku, and Joban lines meet the Keisei Electric Railway's Main Line. The station opened in 1905 as a stop on what was then the Nippon Railway, decades before Keisei arrived to build its own platforms alongside it. These stairs mark the transfer point to the Keisei side, where riders catch the Skyliner, a limited express that covers the roughly 43 kilometers to Narita International Airport in about 41 minutes. Nippori is one of only two stations, along with Keisei Ueno, where the Skyliner picks up passengers before its nonstop run to the airport. A separate elevated line, the Nippori-Toneri Liner, opened in 2008 and adds a third rail connection from the same complex, making Nippori one of the busier interchange points on Tokyo's northern rail network.
