The U55 operated as a short shuttle between Berlin Hauptbahnhof and Brandenburger Tor, opened in 2009 to link the new central station with the government quarter. In December 2020 the shuttle was integrated into the extended U5 line, a major step in Berlin’s east‑west metro connection.
