Lake Street in Minneapolis
Commerce, culture, and recovery along Lake Street, Minneapolis
This series surveys Lake Street in Minneapolis, a major east–west corridor linking Uptown and South Minneapolis with neighborhoods along I-35W. It traces commerce, transit, and culture: Karmel Mall and other immigrant-owned businesses, Mexican Independence Day events, new bike lanes, nightlife venues, billboards, and neighborhood markets. The corridor continues post-2020 recovery, with reopened storefronts and public space still marked by protest handprints.
