Avenida Francisco I. Madero runs for eight blocks through Mexico City's Centro Histórico, connecting the Zócalo to the Palacio de Bellas Artes. The street was pedestrianized in 2010 and is lined with early 20th-century buildings that now house chain retailers, optical shops, and the VIPS restaurant franchise. Vendors selling blankets, pillows, and other goods commonly set up along the pavement here, part of the informal commerce that has long operated alongside the street's licensed businesses.
