Steel ore dock structure silhouetted against twilight sky with lighthouse on Lake Superior horizon, Two Harbors, Minnesota.
The Two Harbors East Breakwater Light marks the entrance to Agate Bay on Lake Superior. Built in 1937 to replace an earlier wooden tower, it stands about 18 feet tall and remains an active, automated aid to navigation maintained by the U.S. Coast Guard. The steel structure beyond it is part of the Duluth, Missabe and Iron Range Railway's ore dock, used since the late 19th century to load taconite pellets onto lake freighters. Two Harbors was home to the first ore dock built on Lake Superior, in 1884, establishing the town as a key shipping point for Minnesota's Iron Range.

Duluth & Iron Range Railroad depot built in 1907 in Two Harbors, Minnesota.
The Duluth & Iron Range Railroad depot in Two Harbors, Minnesota, opened in 1907, its name and construction date still carved into the brick facade. The railroad hauled iron ore from the Vermilion and Mesabi ranges down to the Lake Superior docks, and Two Harbors grew up around that shipping business. Passenger and depot operations continued here until 1961. The building is now home to the Lake County Historical Society's railroad museum, which displays historic locomotives and equipment on the adjacent grounds.
