Nathanael Greene Monument in Greensboro, North Carolina, featuring an equestrian statue honoring the Continental Army general.
Nathanael Greene commanded the Continental Army's Southern Department starting in 1780, leading a campaign of strategic retreats and skirmishes that wore down Lord Cornwallis's forces across the Carolinas. His tactics at the Battle of Guilford Courthouse in March 1781, fought just a few miles from this site, left Cornwallis's army so depleted that it withdrew toward Virginia and ultimately surrendered at Yorktown later that year. The monument's base carries a line attributed to Cornwallis himself: "Greene is as dangerous as Washington; I never feel secure when encamped in his neighbourhood." Greensboro, founded in 1808, was named in Greene's honor for his role in turning the tide of the war in the South.

Abandoned presidential busts from Presidents Park are seen in the Black Hills Forest, South Dakota. The park featured 20-foot-tall concrete sculptures of U.S. presidents.
Abandoned presidential busts from the former Presidents Park attraction are seen in the Black Hills Forest near Lead, South Dakota. Opened in 2003 by artist David Adickes, the park featured forty-three 20-foot-tall concrete sculptures of U.S. presidents. The attraction closed by 2010 due to low visitor numbers, leaving the statues to be reclaimed by nature. These weathered relics now stand as a testament to ambitious, yet ultimately unsuccessful, private ventures in roadside Americana.

The Pioneers Statue in Northeast Minneapolis vandalized with red paint and protest messages at night.
The Pioneers Monument was sculpted by John K. Daniels and dedicated in 1936 to honor early European settlers in Minnesota. Vandals covered the granite base in red paint, writing "Decolonize," "Land Back," and "All Colonizers Are Bastards" across the statue and its steps. The monument depicts pioneer figures in bronze atop a stone pedestal and has drawn criticism in recent years from Indigenous activists who argue it glorifies colonization. Similar defacement has targeted other Minneapolis monuments tied to settler history amid broader calls to reconsider public memorials.
